WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW?
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?
Dress warm, the temperature on the water can be much cooler than on land, especially when traveling at high speeds. Jackets are recommended. Bring clothing that can protect you from the wind and sun. As a general rule of thumb- better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.
What kind of tours do you offer?
Our high speed zodiac offers a fun and up close experience for seasoned whale watchers and first timers alike. With our limited capacity, each trip brings a unique and personal feel.
How do I book a tour?
Under our “Book Now” tab you will be able to choose which whale watch experience is right for you. After selecting your desired adventure, you will be led to an availability calendar, from there pick your date and get excited!
Is there a bathroom?
There is no bathroom aboard, please plan accordingly. There are public restrooms near the dock where you will meet the boat.
What should I bring?
- Sunscreen
- Jackets
- Sunglasses
What if my trip is canceled due to weather?
If your trip is canceled you will be contacted with options for rebooking or refunds. Trips will only be canceled if necessary after assessing conditions and weather.
Is there a minimum or maximum age for passengers?
The minimum age for our Whale Watching Trip is 5 years of age. Currently we do not have a maximum age for our trips, but please be aware that our vessels are fast and rough sea conditions are possible. For this reason, we do not advise you to book if you have neck/back issues or are pregnant.
What will I see?
Unlike many other whale watching destinations, Oceanside is home to wildlife year round! Please refer to our “Sightings Year-Round” page to see what wildlife is possible to see during different times of year.
How close will I get?
All marine mammals in the United States are protected. Due to this, vessels are required to maintain a minimum distance of 100 yards from whales. The only time a baleen whale will be closer than 100 yards is if it chooses to approach us on its own. In those instances, our engines will remain in neutral to allow the whale to interact with us on its own terms. Dolphins however are the exception to this rule, they are able to interact very closely with our boat and even love to catch a ride off our bow and in our wake.
How do you maintain safety on the boat?
A United States Coast Guard mandated safety briefing will be given at the beginning of every trip informing you of the specifics for your vessel. Our vessels are equipped with type 1 life jackets approved by the USCG for all passengers (including children) as well as all safety equipment required by law. Children under the age of 13 are required by law to wear a life jacket at all times.
Will I get seasick?
It is always a possibility to experience seasickness, If you are prone to nausea we recommend taking precautions before coming aboard. However, seasickness is far less common on smaller vessels like ours.
When should I arrive?
We recommend arriving around 30 minutes early for your trip to account for any parking issues or traffic on the way. If you are running late please give us a call at 760-383-1433 for help with directions. Please note that we may have to leave without you if you arrive too late as we do not want to keep other passengers waiting.
Can I take pictures?
Yes! However please keep in mind you will be on the ocean and your equipment has the possibility of getting wet, please bring proper housing for all electronics and valuables.
Are sightings guaranteed?
While we pride ourselves on our sightings records and ability to cover a vast amount of ground (increasing your chances for encounters with marine life)…we can not guarantee sightings.
